Session Tracer - Privacy Policy
Last Updated: February 2026
Introduction
Session Tracer is a Chrome extension developed by Visenia. This Privacy Policy describes how Session Tracer handles user data and maintains user privacy.
What Data We Collect
Session Tracer captures the following data ONLY when the user explicitly starts a recording by clicking "Start Recording":
- User interactions (clicks, keyboard inputs, scroll events)
- Page navigation events (URLs, page titles)
- Network requests metadata (URLs, methods, status codes)
- DOM structure changes (summaries of added/removed elements)
- Frame and iframe context information
- User-provided annotations and comments on webpage regions
Important: Session Tracer does NOT capture:
- Passwords or sensitive input field values (automatically masked)
- Credit card numbers or financial data (automatically redacted)
- API keys or authentication tokens (automatically masked)
- Full HTTP request/response bodies
- Audio, video, or visual recording of the screen
Where Data is Stored
Session Tracer stores NO data on external servers.
All captured data is stored ONLY in your browser's memory during an active recording session. When you close the browser or stop the extension, the data is immediately discarded UNLESS you have explicitly exported it.
When you click "Export Session", a JSON file containing the session data is generated and downloaded to your computer. This is YOUR DATA, stored locally under YOUR control. We do not upload, sync, or transmit this data anywhere.
How We Use Data
Session Tracer uses captured data ONLY for:
- Creating a causal graph of events during your recording session
- Correlating related events (e.g., linking a click to its resulting network request)
- Generating the exportable JSON file for your download
- Displaying real-time event count in the extension popup
We do NOT use captured data for:
- Analytics or tracking
- Profiling or personalization
- Selling or sharing with third parties
- Improving machine learning models
- Any purpose other than creating your session export
Data Sharing and Third Parties
Session Tracer does NOT share data with any third parties.
We do not:
- Send data to external servers
- Share data with advertisers or marketing companies
- Sync data with cloud services
- Integrate with third-party analytics tools
- Share data with other extensions or applications
The only data transmitted from Session Tracer is:
- Chrome extension manifest and version information (standard Chrome protocol)
- No user data or session information
Data Retention
Session Tracer does NOT retain data:
- Data is held ONLY in browser memory during an active recording
- Closing the browser or stopping recording permanently deletes the data
- We maintain NO archives, backups, or historical records of captured data
- Uninstalling the extension does not affect your previously exported JSON files (stored on your computer)
Data Security
Session Tracer implements multiple security measures:
- All code is bundled locally - no external scripts or resources
- Automatic redaction of sensitive data (passwords, credit cards, API keys)
- Chrome Manifest V3 security model (the highest standard)
- No network communication of user data
- No persistent storage on your device by the extension
- Full source code available on GitHub for security audits
When you export your session, you receive a JSON file. The security of this file is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. We recommend treating exported sessions like you would any other sensitive file containing your activity data.
Your Rights and Control
You have complete control over your data:
- Start/Stop Recording: You explicitly control when data capture begins and ends
- Export or Delete: You decide whether to export your session data or let it disappear
- Uninstall: Uninstalling the extension immediately stops all data collection
- No Account Required: No account creation means no profile associated with your data
- Data Format: All exported data is in plain JSON, readable and editable by you
Children's Privacy
Session Tracer is not intended for use by children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has installed Session Tracer, please uninstall it immediately.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
Session Tracer may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify users of material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the extension after updates indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
